Driver S Osmond was queried regarding the below market expectations performance of the mare, he stated that she travelled fairly well but did hang-in when he asked her to improve down the back straight and he felt she may not have handled the tighter track of tonight’s meeting. He added that he was a bit disappointed with the run as he and the stable were confident of a forward showing in tonight’s field and added the heat may have also effected her run.
HOLME BOY – Post-race swab sampled.

In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account B Micallef’s very good driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident. MEGS MONARO – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it is 12 years old and has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Inconvenienced near the 1800 metres when FRESH PRINCE broke gait. Driver G Lee was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the gelding tonight, in particular him restraining from the start which appeared in contrast to how the gelding is usually driven, he stated that he was instructed by Trainer S Lee to go back from the start as the gelding has shown in the past over the longer distance of tonight’s race it doesn’t finish the race off if used early. He added that they also felt there were runners with gate speed drawn to his inside and the gelding was somewhat up in grade, so they didn’t want to have to do work early out wide to get a forward position. He added that after FRESH PRINCE galloped, the pace of the race eased so he elected to make a move forward to obtain a forward position and the gelding was able to finish the race off well in his view. Trainer S Lee confirmed the instructions and the reasons for them.
