General: The start of this event was delayed one (1) minute due to Race 5 at Sandown Thoroughbreds being behind there scheduled starting time. This event was subsequently shown on Sky Racing 2.

SMOKING SHANNON – ($26.00) Driver Justin Reynolds was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare which finished in 9th and last position beaten 59.5m after racing outside the leader throughout. Mr Reynolds advised the mare was increasing in grade after winning two (2) maiden status races as SMOKING SHANNON was not suited racing over the longer distance & without cover and it would the stables intentions to restrict the mare to the shorter course distances going forward. Mr Reynolds added SMOKING SHANNON may have partially choked down when its anti-choking device broke during the preliminary & a replacement was unavailable. A warning was issued against the racing competitiveness of SMOKING SHANNON. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare displaying a delayed recovery.

BEANCOUNTER – ($21.00) Driver Charli Masotti was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding which finished in 9th and last position beaten 38.8m after racing outside the leader throughout the event. Ms Masotti advised the gelding to be disappointing and attributed the performance to the gelding racing without cover throughout the event in an overall quick mile rate of 1.54.8. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DONTLETFEARSTOPYA NZ – Post-race swab.

SAVAGE STORM – Back in mobile draw.

INDASKY NZ – Inconvenienced after the start when LETTYS REASON which it was following out was slow to begin.

RACE 3 – THANK YOU HYNASH GROUP GOLD CROWN SPONSORS PACE – 2260 metres

MAMMALS ALIBI – ($7.50) Driver Jett Turnbull was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particularly his decision when leading unchallenged going through a lead time of 46.1 seconds (1.8 seconds) quicker than the average lead time & continuing to set a strong speed until passing the 800m when unchallenged in recording a first half in 58.8 seconds & if he gave consideration to ease the pace at any stage to allow the gelding some respite with MAMMALS ALIBI being first up since August 2025 before finishing in 4th position beaten 22.4m. Mr Turnbull advised MAMMALS ALIBI commenced to over race passing the 1800m & he attempted to steady the gelding however MAMMALS ALIBI has a unique gait & commenced to race roughly and felt if was to ease the gelding to any further degree it may have broken gait and it would best to allow the gelding to continue at a even speed as the gelding appeared to be more settled in its gait. Mr Turnbull added connections were confident of a forward performance from the gelding first up if able to lead as MAMMALS ALIBI had been trialling & working well for the event. Mr Turnbull explained MAMMALS ALIBI is suited when able to stride freely when previously driving the gelding last campaign. After viewing the available replays which supported the comments of Mr Turnbull Stewards felt Mr Turnbull had erred with his tactics in setting a consisted speed in particular MAMMALS ALIBI being first up from a spell and he would be expected to show greater judgement in future.

Driver Blake Micallef was queried into the seeming poor performance of the gelding which finished in 8th and last position beaten 56.1m. Mr Micallef could offer no tangible explanation for the performance other than the gelding failed to travel sufficiently at any stages of the event. A warning was issued against the racing competitiveness of TERRYRAMA. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding displaying a delayed recovery.

OBADIAH DRAGON NZ – ($5.50) Driver Seaton Grima was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 5th position beaten 22.6m. Mr Grima advised he was satisfied with the overall performance of the gelding and contributed the performance to the gelding having to sustain a three (3) wide move without cover from the passing the 900m & the gelding locking wheels momentarily with MAMMALS ALIBI passing the 200m.
