RACE 1 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1635 metres

NIXSUN – Checked passing the 500 metres as a result of ILLUSTRATION tiring from the event.

ILLUSTRATION – Broke in the score up and caused a false start. In view of the overall record of the gelding, ILLUSTRATION will now be placed out of the draw in mobile starts. Driver Oliver Arentz was questioned in regard to his driving tactics, of particular concern to the Stewards was the decision of Mr Arentz after working in the early stages to lead he continued to urge the gelding forward for the entire race before tiring to be beaten 79.6 metres. Mr Arentz stated it was the intention of connections to lead if possible which he was able to do and felt the gelding races better when able to race at a constant speed with no horses racing to his direct outside, however the gelding didn’t travel well at all during the event and commenced to give ground shortly after passing the winning post with a lap remaining. When considering evidence, Stewards believed Mr Arentz had erred in his judgement for his drive of ILLUSTRATION, however given his relative inexperience having only had 52 lifetime drives and not being spoken to in regards to driving in an unacceptable manner, Stewards felt the most appropriate penalty would be to issue Mr Arentz a reprimand for an unacceptable drive under Rule 149(2), in that he has not provided his runner any respite throughout the race contributing to the gelding tiring. Stewards felt the performance of ILLUSTRATION also contributed to the gelding racing below expectations and as a result stood ILLUSTRATION down until it can complete one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

JOHNNYS BLUE – Post-race swab sample.

CLARENDEN VINTAGE – Driver Blake Jones was queried regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Mr Jones explained that after being caught in a three wide position early he did have to work forward obliging him to race in a position outside the leader which the standard racing pattern for CLARENDEN VINTAGE and felt the overall performance tonight was disappointing. In view of the overall performance of CLARENDON VINTAGE, the gelding will be required to perform one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Driver Taylah Osmond had her licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 17 February 2026. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered Ms Osmond’s plea, record in relation to the rule and the circumstances of this incident.

SUNSET JAY JAY – Prior to all clear driver Claire Judd indicated her intention to review footage of the start as she felt her runner was denied a fair start. Upon review although some 100 metres from the mobile barrier after galloping on two occasions, Ms Judd had raised her left hand momentarily indicating gear issues. Ms Judd continued to ease her runner before the start was affected and realised the gear had not broken and continued the event well behind the field.
