RACE 4 – MARKETS @ PENRITH SHOWGROUND EVERY THURSDAY PACE – 1720 metres

TIGERLICIOUS – Stewards questioned Driver J Gallagher in relation to the tactics adopted, in particular his decision at the start of the event to restrain the mare and also his decision passing the 600 metres to improve along the marker pegs rather than improving three wide from that point. Driver J Gallagher explained he received no firm instructions from connections and when considering today’s event he felt ED MENDES and LYNNSANITY, which were drawn to his inside, would show significant gate speed and did not believe TIGERLICIOUS would have the required speed to cross those runners and was mindful he did not want to be caught racing outside the leader so elected to restrain at the start. Mr Gallagher explained that approaching the 600 metres the tempo of the event had significantly quickened and noted the runner racing outside the leader had commenced to give ground and therefore elected to improve along the marker pegs. Mr Gallagher explained that if he had of improved three wide at that stage, he would have been at least four wide rounding the final turn which he did not believe would be beneficial to his drive and noted his mare was tested throughout the event and only finished the event off fairly finishing in 4th position. Stewards noted his comments.

MISTER QUIRK – Post-race swab sample.

IDEAL REDEMPTION – Improved three wide from the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 800 metres.
