Mr Ward explained that after an unsuccessful attempt to gain the position outside of the leader at the 900m and the remaining distance to the finish, he elected to remain racing three wide and gain some respite. Mr Ward advised that soon after passing the 600m ZOLTON became under pressure before tiring to beaten 66m. In recording the comments of Mr Ward, the panel did advise him that his second challenge to gain the position off GLENN FORD NZ nearing the 900m should not have occurred, given the work in which his drive had already endured. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
