RACE 1 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1609 metres
ROSES ARE BEST – When questioned in relation to the performance driver B Elder explained, that it had been his intention to lead at a moderate tempo if possible, however after driving with vigour after the start he was unable to cross runners to his inside. He said that rounding the turn after the start he observed HEY DUDE to be eased by its driver and for this reason he drove forward in an attempt to establish the position outside the lead. He said that due to UNIT FORTY ONE shifting from the marker pegs to take the position outside the lead prior to him achieving it he was trapped three wide and obliged from this point to restrain to the tail of the field. He said that after this he shifted wider in the back straight on the final occasion and placed ROSES ARE BEST under pressure however it responded only moderately and was disappointed in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3 – JOHNS AUTO SERVICE PACE – 1609 metres
SPARKLING SUE – Post-race swab sample.
SEVEN RIPPIN ACES – Pre-race blood sample.

RENROW LAD – Hampered over the concluding stages when racing tight between ANNIE CROCKER which was carried out by MAYWYNS MIGHTY MAC and TOPSIES BLING which hung in and shifted in marginally.
TIGERMAC – Prior to the declaration of all clear, driver J Coney was interviewed in relation to her attempt to obtain a run inside MAYWYNS MIGHTY MAC at the entrance to the home straight, which resulted in TIGERMAC racing inside the marker pegs for a short distance. Subsequently it was determined that whilst TIGERMAC did race inside the marker pegs it gained no advantage and all clear was declared. Notwithstanding this, J Coney pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 163(a)(i), stating that she directed TIGERMAC to a position behind MAYWYNS MIGHTY MAC at the entrance to the home straight which obliged her to race inside the marker pegs for a short distance. J Coney was fined $200.
MAYWYNS MIGHTY MAC – Driver B Elder pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 156(2)(a), stating that, when he applied the whip in the home straight, he did so in a manner which exceeded a wrist only flicking motion. B Elder was fined $200.
LACHIES IDEAL – Broke stride free of any external factors rounding the turn after the start and galloped. Connections were advised that the provision of last chance to race truly would be placed on the gelding’s record.

He said that despite his efforts after the start he was unable to cross AWHOLELOTOFPRETTY and was obliged to race without cover for some distance and during this time ALLSOPP pulled hard and was difficult to restrain. He said that because of this when placed under pressure inside the 400 metres the gelding was unresponsive and whilst it did not weaken in the run to the finish it could not improve. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
GROSSO NASO – pre-race blood sample.
CUT GLASS NZ – Refused to pace off the mark when a start was initially called then after being assisted by the clerks of the course took charge of its driver and galloped during the score up resulting in a false start was declared. Trainer/driver Mr S Ison was advised that the gelding would continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw and prior to racing again must perform satisfactory in an official qualifying trial.
