RACE 3 – SKY RACING ACTIVE 2YO MAIDEN PACE – 1720 metres

MAVERICK – Gave ground over the final 600 metres and tired significantly.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed an elevated heart rate.  Adopting the veterinary recommendations connections were advised that MAVERICK would be stood down pending a veterinary certificate of fitness in addition the gelding must complete one satisfactory official trial.

SO CAN EYE – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  When questioned driver R Morris explained that SO CAN EYE was leading for the first time in today’s event and in his opinion his inexperience in this position may have been detrimental over the concluding stages.  He added that whilst it is dependent on the grade of the race he may look to drive the gelding with cover in the immediate future but would expect him to improve if he did lead in similar circumstances.

LOUS PROMISE – Approaching the 100 metres made slight contact with the sulky of JACQUELYN JOY which shifted out and subsequently LOUS PROMISE raced roughly.

OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ – Improved three wide during the middle stages before crossing to the position outside of the leader near the 1100 metres.  When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance driver J Bigeni explained that he expected he would be able to find the position outside of the leader due to the horses in the running line appearing reluctant to improve closer to the lead.  He added once he found the position outside of the leader he had no intention to surrender that position to TIME TO DANCE NZ because OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ albeit not in recent times, has raced its best races when racing outside of the leader or in the lead.  He said that when he was able to find the position outside of the leader with relative ease he was not surprised that OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ was competitive.  J Bigeni’s explanation was noted.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.

TIME TO DANCE NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Caught wide in the early stages and unable to cross to the position outside of the leader when challenging OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ between the 1000 metres and the 800 metres and remained racing three wide for the remainder of the event.
