The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1100 metres.
TUKAHA – Stewards commenced an inquiry into the reasons for TUKAHA contacting the off side sulky wheel of OUTSIDE FIGHTER over the concluding stages and as a result racing roughly. After taking evidence from Dean Cernovskis the driver of TUKAHA and Jack Callaghan the driver of OUTSIDE FIGHTER it was established that inside the final 50 metres, TUKAHA which was held up, was shifted wider on the track looking to obtain clear running between OUTSIDE FIGHTER and ENJABONARLO and commenced to improve into a developing run and soon after the run had fully developed contacted the sulky of OUTSIDE FIGHTER. Stewards accepted that OUTSIDE FIGHTER similar to most other runners in the race had shifted slightly wider on the track at the same point when TUKAHA commenced to improve into the run, however when doing so TUKAHA hung in contacting the sulky wheel of OUTSIDE FIGHER and therefore determined that the fault of the incident could not lay at the feet of either driver or either horse and determined to note the incident.
RACE 3 – WSI AIRPORT TRANSFERS FFA – 2300 metres
PERFECT STRIDE NZ – Contacted the sulky wheel of DOUBLE LOU over the concluding stages and as a result was checked and race roughly.
DOUBLE LOU – Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for PERFECT STRIDE NZ contacting the offside sulky wheel of DOUBLE LOU and being checked and racing roughly over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from Amanda Turnbull, the driver of SEASIDER, Ashleigh Delosa the driver of PERFECT STRIDE NZ and Bailey McDonough the driver of DOUBLE LOU it was established that DOUBLE LOU which was held up in the early stages of the home straight was shifted across the backs of a number of runners by Mr Mcdonough and commenced to improve into a run to the inside of PERFECT STRIDE NZ however in doing so and despite the efforts of driver Bailey McDonough DOUBLE LOU continued to shift wider on the track until a point where PERFECT STRIDE NZ made contact with the off side sulky wheel of DOUBLE LOU and was checked and raced roughly. After consideration, Driver Bailey McDonough pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his runner from shifting up the track at that stage of the event causing PERFECT STRIDE NZ to be checked and race roughly. After considering the recent record of Mr McDonough, in addition to the particular circumstances of the incident, his licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of seven days to commence immediately.
UBETCHA TIGERPIE – Post-race swab sample.
HI MANAMEISJEFF NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Worked forward to the lead passing the 1500 metres. Stewards questioned driver Jye Coney with regards to the tactics he adopted in the middle stages of the event whereby he elected to withstand a challenge from MARKETPLACE NZ, in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which weakened over the concluding stages to finish in seventh placing beaten eight metres. Mr Coney advised Stewards the he was provided instructions by trainer Jacon Grimson to lead at all costs and to withstand any challenge given the gelding’s impeccable record at Menangle over the 2300 metres distance. Mr Coney advised Stewards that he was not disappointed with the performance of the gelding, however he felt the pressure applied by MARKETPLACE NZ during the middle stages of the event may have told late on the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Coney, Stewards determined to note his comments.
MARKETPLACE NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
RACE 4 – TAB PACE – 1609 metres
LETS TURN IT ON – Driver Will Rixon was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that after shifting wider to the running line passing the 1200 metres to follow JACKS ULTIMATE FURY NZ he elected to again follow that runner back down to the marker pegs soon after when SOHO PARK AVENUE had improved marginally to its inside causing driver Michael Stanley to have to take hold of his runner and be somewhat inconvenienced.
SOHO PARK AVENUE – Pre-race blood sample. Inconvenienced approaching the 1100 metres. Stewards questioned driver Michael Stanley with regards to the performance of the colt which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in tenth position beaten 28.1 metres. Mr Stanley advised Stewards that he probably erred in nominating the three year old colt first up from a spell against the older horses at a metropolitan meeting.
