JILLIBY FABIO – Locked wheels with LOU WILL NZ approaching the 1100 metres.
LOU WILL NZ – Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for LOU WILL NZ locking wheels with JILLIBY FABIO approaching the 1100 metres when working forward three wide causing LOU WILL NZ to sustain a flat near side sulky tyre and be retired from the event. After taking evidence from Seaton Grima the driver of LOU WILL NZ, Chloe Formosa the driver of JILLIBY FABIO and Jack Callaghan the driver of CARRAMAR OLAM the reasons for for JILLIBY FABIO and LOU WILL NZ and locking wheels passing the 1100 metres was unable to be attributed to a single horse or driver and therefore Stewards determined to note the incident. A post-race veterinary examination of LOU WILL NZ failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
RACE 4 – TAB PACE – 1609 metres
I BET YOU – Forced wider passing the 450 metres.
WAMBOYNEINAMERICA – Post-race swab sample.
SAINT CRUSADER – Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver Seaton Grima with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early and middle stages of the event, in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 9th placing beaten 16 metres. Mr Grima advised Stewards the gelding has been racing well having led in every start since joining his stable and felt this was the best way to again drive the gelding this evening. Mr Grima added that whilst he set a fairly fast tempo on the gelding, the gelding had proved previously it was capable of running those sectionals and therefore felt tonight’s performance was slightly disappointing and pointed to the fact the gelding was three weeks between runs as a possible explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Grima, Stewards determined to note his comments.
SWEET IDEAL – Pre-race blood sample.
KARTIARE – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of Driver Blake Fitzpatrick. After considering the recent record of the gelding it will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Driver Blake Fitzpatrick was reprimanded under Rule 163 (1)(b) for forcing another runner to cover more ground than necessary, in that passing the 450 metres he commenced to apply pressure to the nearside sulky wheel of I BET YOU and shifted that runner into a three wide position prior to the nominated marker at the 400 metres. In not taking sterner action, Stewards accepted evidence from Ms Turnbull that I BET YOU had commenced to weaken and the incident which occurred in reasonable proximity to the nominate marker had minimal impact on its overall chances.
