RACE 1 – FISHO’S RAFFLES @ CLUB PACEWAY EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT NSWSOA FIRST PAST THE POST BONUS PACE – 1720 metres

JAY BEE LOU – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Lucas Rando was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular as to whether consideration was given to directing JAY BEE LOU wider approaching the 1300 metres prior to HOMEBOUND improving to his outside which subsequently resulted in JAY BEE LOU being held up over the concluding stages.  Mr Rando explained that he had formed the view that JACQUELYN JOY, who he was following, would be driven in a conservative manner after the mare had surrendered the lead relatively easily during the early stages and for this reason he was reluctant to improve ahead of HOMEBOUND as JAY BEE LOU would be positioned outside the leader without cover.  Mr Rando added that as HOMEBOUND progressed toward his outside JACQUELYN JOY shifted out to occupy the position outside of the leader which he did not anticipate and added in hindsight had he known this would occur he would have directed JAY BEE LOU wider.  Mr Rando further added that in being reluctant to occupy the position outside the leader without cover he was of the view that JAY BEE LOU would not be suited to racing in such a manner and had only ever previously been driven with cover when unable to lead.  Upon consideration of all the circumstances Stewards recorded Mr Rando’s explanation.

RACE 5 – PENRITH SHOW AUGUST 29 & 30 TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW 3YO PACE – 1720 metres

MAJOR AUSTIN – Driver Robert Morris was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the colt inside the final 600 metres.  Mr Morris explained that passing the 700 metres MAJOR AUSTIN had failed to travel and commenced to be placed under pressure and he was mindful that HEZA CASANOVA, which was positioned immediately to his outside, was travelling better than MAJOR AUSTIN in his opinion and consequently he elected to continue to drive MAJOR AUSTIN forward as he felt should he not do so this would benefit HEZA CASANOVA.  Mr Morris further added that he recorded even sectionals during the early stages of the race (29.4 & 29.8) and did not quicken the speed appreciably during the third quarter with it recorded in 29.2 seconds and is consistent with how the horse had been driven previously. Mr Morris added he was aware EYE CAN EAR AMOUR was attempting to improve from behind him passing the 200 metres, however at that stage it would not have been suitable to steady MAJOR AUSTIN to prevent that runner from improving as he would halt his momentum at a vital stage and it may pose a safety risk to the trailing runners.    On the available evidence Stewards recorded Mr Morris’ explanation.

HEZA CASANOVA – Pre-race blood sample.  Inconvenienced and paced roughly shortly after passing the 200 metres when EYE CAN EAR AMOUR shifted out.

EYE CAN EAR AMOUR – Driver Joshua Gallagher was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the colt in particular his decision to surrender the lead to MAJOR AUSTIN approaching the 1400 metres.  Mr Gallagher advised that he was instructed by the trainer to obtain the lead if possible and should the opportunity arise to surrender the lead to a favourable runner he should do so as previously EYE CAN EAR AMOUR has finished its races off best after being driven with cover.  Mr Gallagher added the tactics he adopted were consistent with those adopted recently in particular at Newcastle on 17 July 2026 where the colt finished in 1st placing driven in a similar manner.  On the available evidence Stewards recorded Mr Gallagher’s explanation.  Mr Gallagher was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that shortly after passing the 200 metres he permitted EYE CAN EAR AMOUR to shift out resulting in HEZA CASANOVA being inconvenienced and pacing roughly.

HIWAYTHREENINENINE – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 57 metres and a warning was issued.
