RACE 3 – ART MAJOR AT ALABAR FARMS 3YO PACE – 1730 metres

IM ON NO SLEEP – Broke in the score up and caused a false start. In view of its recent record, will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Driver Nathan Turnbull was questioned regarding his driving tactics, of particular concern to the Stewards was early in the race when Mr Turnbull was racing in a position behind ANDRETTI but unable to keep that runners back and as a result INTERESTINME was able to advance in front of Mr Turnbull and obtain that position behind the leader. Mr Turnbull explained IM ON NO SLEEP had galloped at its previous start at Parkes when asked for an effort out of the gate and felt the filly would be better suited to the open spaces of the Bathurst track however on the first attempt did break in the score up and caused a false start and also commenced to pig root. Mr Turnbull felt while the filly was racing in a genuine manner, he was reluctant to drive the filly with any vigour to maintain his position behind ANDRETTI and as a result INTERESTINME was able to improve in advance of his runner and find the position behind the leader. Stewards noted the explanation of Mr Turnbull, however, would endeavour to review the wagering in this event. In view of the overall racing manners of IM ON NO SLEEP, the filly will be required to perform one requalifying trial.

ANDRETTI – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

PAPIER MACHE – Driver Owen Shea was questioned regarding his driving tactics when racing in a position outside the leader in the early stages before being restrained looking for cover from INTERESTINME which was racing in a three wide position, Mr Shea restrained his runner which also allowed INTERESTINME to progress forward of his runner and find a position behind the leader leaving the gelding racing in a position outside the leader. Mr Shea felt the pace early in the race was quite strong and felt it would be detrimental to his runner to progress forward with any vigour to find a position behind the leader and he felt with the corner approaching the runner to his inside IM ON NO SLEEP would have been able to progress forward and hold the position behind and therefore he would have been in a position with cover behind INTERESTINME which ultimately didn’t work out. The gelding tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 130 metres and as a result will now be required to perform one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Ms Frisby explained she intended to drive the gelding forward which is consistent with how it is driven normally, however felt there was more speed in the event than anticipated and as a result had to work harder in the early stages to find the position outside the leader and Ms Frisby explained the early work contributed to the performance of the gelding. Stewards intend to inquire into the conduct of Ms Olivia Frisby throughout the inquiry at a time and date to be fixed.
