MAC TILLY – Hung in after the start and paced roughly for a short distance. Over raced during the middle stages. Held up inside the final 200 metres. Trainer/driver Bailey McDonough was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly throughout. Mr McDonough explained that MAC TILLY only recently joined his stable and he had formed the view based on the filly’s prior racing performances and also the performance in its trial at Menangle on 9 September 2026 that MAC TILLY may perform best when not leading and not having too much use made of it during the early stages. Mr McDonough added that MAC TILLY commenced to hang in after the start and paced roughly and as a consequence he continued to restrain MAC TILLY to obtain a position at the rear of the field. Mr McDonough explained upon securing a position at the rear of the field MAC TILLY commenced to hang in and in his opinion not pace fluently and for this reason he occupied a position on the marker pegs shortly after passing the 1200 metres. Mr McDonough added that upon improving along the marker pegs MAC TILLY commenced to over race where then when the opportunity presented inside the final 600 metres he directed MAC TILLY wider to the two wide line. Mr McDonough added that upon improving two wide MAC TILLY failed to quicken as the speed of the event increased approaching the 400 metres and the filly commenced to hang in and he did not feel given these two factors combined it was suitable for MAC TILLY to improve three wide rounding the final turn. Mr McDonough added that as MAC TILLY was hanging in he allowed the filly to progress to the marker pegs passing the 300 metres where upon straightening MAC TILLY again commenced to over race and despite his efforts was held up inside the final 200 metres and approaching the finish made contact with SO IMPRESSIVE whom he was following. Mr McDonough advised that he would have discussions with connections, however at this stage he was of the view that MAC TILLY may benefit from a let up. Upon consideration of all the available evidence Stewards advised Mr McDonough that MAC TILLY would be placed on its last chance to race truly and that a repetition may result in the filly stood down from racing until trialling.
THE SHOWGIRL – Trainers D & K McDowell was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare Clare Carroll as the driver of the filly by the prescribed time.

Mr Morris advised that ELLEZIE proved disappointing over the concluding stages considering the relatively moderate sectionals which were recorded while leading. A post-race veterinary examination of the ELLEZIE failed to reveal any significant findings. Given the beaten margin ELLEZIE will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.
