Mr Painting advised BEE MY LOVER was having its first start for his stable as the filly had been under his care for approximately 6 weeks & he had taken extensive chiropractic treatment on the filly since joining the stable & increasing its feeding regime. Mr Painting advised BEE MY LOVER trackwork had also improved over the past weeks due to these factors and he was confident of a forward performance from BEE MY LOVER today as the filly was racing lesser opposition than prior starts in the metropolitan area & he would expect BEE MY LOVER to maintain its form going forward.  Post-race swab.

THE GREAT WAVE – ($1.70 Fav) Fractious leaving the pre-race circle and broke gait during the score up. THE GREAT WAVE will now be placed on its last chance in the draw. Trainer/driver Jackson Painting was queried into the tactics adopted upon the mare in particular his decision when leading after recording a quick first half of 55.8 seconds than allowing THE GREAT WAVE to improve further in front passing the 800m and recording a quick third quarter of 27.2 seconds prior to THE GREAT WAVE being placed under pressure from the 500m to  finish in 4th position beaten 15m. Mr Painting advised THE GREAT WAVE contacted the sulky wheel passing the 1400m causing the mare to race keenly which contributed to the extremely quick 1st quarter 26.8 seconds which was also wind assisted. Mr Painting explained the mare was travelling well within herself during that section and passing the 900m the mare again commenced striking the sulky wheels (which had not occurred in previous starts) at which point he was of the opinion THE GREAT WAVE would be able to sustain a strong 800m run as the mare was driven in a similar manner at its most recent start & recorded a similar third quarter last start when only narrowly beaten finishing in 2nd position. Mr Painting added he somewhat disappointed in the mare’s performance to finish off in the desired manner as he was confident of a forward performance of THE GREAT WAVE after its most recent start. After viewing the available replays and the comments of Mr Painting Stewards felt Mr Painting had erred with his tactics particularly passing the 800m to allow THE GREAT WAVE to extend its lead after recording such a quick first half as it would have been more beneficial to allow his drive to have further respite during that section & that his drive lacked judgement during that point however not to the required standards any charge could be sustained under AHRR 149. Stewards advised Mr Painting to take the corrective measures to prevent any reoccurrences with THE GREAT WAVE striking the sulky.
